The McCoy Vineyard sits at about 1700’ of elevation and – on a clear day – you can see the San Francisco city line and the Pacific Ocean from its wind-swept peak. Chuck McCoy, who personally planted the 45 acres of vines, knew that the hilly terrain combined with a constant and cooling wind would yield fruit of exceptional quality and longevity. Further, the vineyard’s mix of large stones and volcanic ash soil result in tremendous terroir and complexity from its fruit.
Currently managed by Chuck’s two daughters, just getting to the vineyard is no small task – a long and windy one-lane road where you will slow down multiple times for deer and to take in the sights, sounds & smells of the location – but well worth the journey. Being perched near the top of the world allows for multiple sun exposures on different blocks and allows for tremendous diversity amongst the varietals grown – and we feel fortunate to have access to such high-quality fruit.
